Observations.... While discussing x64 Windows with Stephen Brooks , we began poking around the code sizes on his end (xp 32-bit pro & 98SE) & my end (2003 64-bit server). wordpad.exe W03-64: 341,504 WXP: 214,528 W98: 204,800 lpr.exe W03-64: 11,776 WXP: 8,192 sort.exe W03-64: 33,280 WXP: 23,552 Brooks explained to me that the 64-bit compiling adds some bytes to different instructions, making the code grow at least 20%; we were seeing 27 & up. |
